What is the Toad ?
The Bufo Alvarius Toad is found in the Sonoran Desert of Arizona and Sonora Mexico. The toad spends most of its life hibernating underground and appears for only three months during the summer monsoons. During this time it can be milked for its venom which contains psychedelic compounds.
The venom is composed of approximately 15%-20% 5-MeO-DMT, bufotenine, and a mixture of 20+ alkaloids. Toad Medicine, refers to smoking the venom. It has been credited with anti-depressant and anti-addictive effects.
The medicine is short-acting and ranges from 15-45 minutes in length. The effects of smoking toad medicine include ego dissolution, deep emotional release, feelings of leaving the physical body, and can sometimes include spiritual visions.
People who have experienced Toad Medicine often report that it feels like a near death experience. Toad Medicine is the death of ego. When administered in the appropriate setting it can be the death of negative thought patterns and self-destructive behaviors.
The purpose of the medicine is to integrate what is experienced during the ceremony in the participant’s life in a meaningful way. Integration of the Medicine can be exemplified by healthy living and lifestyle choices. Being the best son, daughter, brother, sister, father, mother, husband, wife and friend one can be. Living the best life one can live. Whether heaven or hell is experienced, the medicine will show the participant what they need to know.
Please be advised that Toad Medicine can simulate death and that it can be a frightening experience for some. It is not a recreational drug and needs to be given respect. To experience the medicine safely it should always be administered in an appropriate setting by an experienced facilitator with medical training. Although the medicine is safe, people can experience a wide range of reactions that need to be attended to with experience and care.
